My Rating 7/10
The oppo reno 2 is another great phone from the oppo range It comes in three really nice colors luminous black, ocean blue and sunset pink. Wrapped in a full gorilla glass 6 the 6.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an 87.5% screen to body ratio which has a shark fin popup selfie camera and a fingerprint scanner under the display. The flush cameras on back are covered with corning gorilla glass 5 and the twilight mist finish seems to glow like neon detail in the way it catches the light.
Oppo Reno 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor, It is made via the 8nm manufacturing process and is a gaming-centric processor. It has Snapdragon Elite gaming features, that Qualcomm claims should provide an edge to the phone while gaming. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It has not got an IP rating so isn’t officially rated as being waterproof.
It comes with four cameras on the back the main camera is a 48 megapixel f/1.7 26mm, 1/2.0″, 0.8 µm with 20x digital zoom and the second camera is a 13 megapixel f/2.4, 1/3.4″, telophoto lens with 2x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom and the third is a 8MP, 13mm, f/2.2, 1/3.2″, 1.4µm ultrawide with autofocus and finally a 2 megapixel depth sensor f/2.4, 1/5″, 1.75µm camera
. It takes very good photos excelleant day time shots that are clear and detailed with a decent zoom. Portrait shots are as good as any flagship phone and night shots are top-notch too and the night mode does a good job in low light.
The selfie camera is a 16 megapixel, f/2.0 and is on a motorized pop up shark fin which takes good pictures and has some very clever software like beauty mode which will capture the best selfie every time. Along with taking great photos the selfie camera can also take videos. The videos are good quality with 4k capture on the main camera with digital stabilization and an Ultra Steady mode in the camera app. While the cameras and software are very good the video stabilization is not the best out there.
The AMOLED screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels with 401 ppi and a max of 509 nits of brightness which is good but still not great in direct sunlight. The color accuracy is good and it has two color modes gentle and vivid. The screen is OK for a mid range phone but is not best out there and is still behind the likes of the oneplus 7 or galaxy S10
The 4100 mAh battery is a strong point in this phone which will give you over 30 hours talk time 12 hours web browsing or 20 hours of video playback. It should last around 2 days between charges with moderate use. When you do need to charge up it is pretty fast too and will charge to around 40% in 30 minutes or will charge fully in around 85 minutes with its 20w quick charge.
The single bottom speaker is crisp and distortion free and has good enough sound and volume for a single speaker. It won’t match the sound of twin stereo speakers on other flagship phones but it is clear and good enough for everyday use. The Reno 2 also comes with a headphone jack which is not that common on a lot of the latest phones nowadays. It has some other nice features too like an FM radio receiver and a micro SD card slot that is if you don’t want to use two sim cards as the slot will rather take a micro SD card or a second sim card.
To sum up the oppo reno 2 is a nice phone to look at that has a very good camera great battery life and software and is a good phone for gaming it all comes down to price and at the time of release around 450 euros it faces some stiff competition from other brands like xiaomi oneplus and Samsung and hauwei. Still, nothing wrong with this phone just maybe better spec or better value phones out there but keep an eye on price as with a lot of new releases the price may drop after a few months.
